Children Guide Police Helicopter To Suspects In Most Genius Way

Quick-thinking children dived to the ground to form a human arrow to help a police helicopter track down two burglary suspects from the sky.

The youngsters, aged between 6 and 12, cut short an Easter egg hunt in southeast England at 2 p.m. on Good Friday to point the National Police Air Service (NPAS) crew in the right direction.

They spotted the chopper circling above the field in Capel, Surrey. It was called in by local Surrey Police following reports of a burglary at a nearby building.

After guessing the cops were after two men they'd seen running near them on the land, the kids gave the airborne law enforcers a helpful tip.

Footage filmed from the 'copter sees them quickly dropping to the earth to make the human arrow. The cameraman spots their signal, zooms in to the tip of the pointer and after switching to thermal imaging, follows it along before spotting a figure crouching in the field.

"The helicopter crew quickly relayed this information to officers on the ground and a short time later two men were arrested," Surrey Police posted in a statement on its website.

"I'm sure the last thing the group of daring Capel residents expected when they set out on Friday afternoon was to abandon their Easter egg hunt to assist us in a police search but the initiative they demonstrated proved to be invaluable," said NPAS Sgt. Paul Sochon.

"The swift action taken by the group of parents and their children was the sort of thing you would usually associate with an Enid Blyton adventure but their ingenuity proved a great help for our crews."

The NPAS crew later landed the helicopter nearby to thank the children and their parents for the role they'd played in detaining the suspects. Two men, aged 28 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They have been bailed until May 13.
