Shark Leaves Behind Tooth In Surfer's Bite Wound

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A surfer is recovering from surgery on his foot after being bitten by a shark in the waters off a northeast Florida beach.

Andrew Birchall tells The St. Augustine Record (http://bit.ly/NhUaFU ) that he was surfing late Thursday morning when a shark bit his foot. Other surfers helped Birchall back to shore.

Birchall says the shark left behind a tooth in the wound.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue paramedics took Birchall to a hospital where he had surgery to repair torn tendons.
