When Kevin was 14-years old, he met Jude at a junior high school dance. She was there as a chaperone -- her daughter was one of Kevin's classmates. Kevin is now 21-years old and Jude is his 53-year old wife. The TLC special "Extreme Cougar Wives" was there when the couple announced that they'd gotten married -- in a handfasting ceremony -- to Kevin's parents.
Understandably, they were stunned, and especially Kevin's mother. She's younger than Jude.
"No, Kevin. This is not normal. You know that this is not normal," Kevin's mother told him. "Why are you doing this to us?"
Kevin said, "We didn’t plan getting together. We didn’t calculate it. It just happened." Jude had been managing his music career, and it was through their time together during this that the two began to develop feelings for one another.
So far, critical response hasn't been that positive. Variety isn't even sure if they believe it's authenticity, saying it felt staged, and wondering how the camera were explained to participants like Kevin's parents. Meanwhile, The New York Daily News wrote that the show "exists because TLC knows most viewers will find the whole idea creepy," despite professions of love by the featured couples.
