After playing with a gun and accidentally shooting himself in the groin Friday, one Chicago-area teen was left with injuries both his body and his pride.
Police say the 17-year-old of nearby Elmwood Park was cruising the city's Northwest Side with his girlfriends Friday evening when the gun he was handling accidentally misfired in the back of the car and injured him in the "lower groin area," according to the Sun-Times.
Instead of coming clean to police, DNAinfo Chicago reports the boy claimed he was attacked by people in "ninja-like masks."
The boy reported the incident shortly after 8 p.m. from the 3300 block of North Harlem Avenue in Dunning where he initially told cops two men dressed in black clothing and ninja-like masks jumped out of a black van and shot him.
Police canvassed the area and turned up no evidence, eventually prompting the boy with self-admitted gang ties to tell the truth after switching his story several times, the Sun-Times reports.
The boy was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, and listed in stable condition, according to police.
As of Saturday, it was unclear what charges the boy would face, if any. According to the state's criminal code, giving false reports to police could be classified disorderly conduct and punishable by fines.
