A multi-agency search is underway off the coast of Miami after mayday call reported that a passenger fell out of a plane flying at 1,800 feet.
“The pilot’s claim over the radio was “Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! His door was ajar,” Coast Guard Petty Officer Mark Barney told the Miami Herald.
According to NBC6, the call came in about 1:30 p.m. Thursday from a Piper PA 46 flying about a mile offshore over Biscayne Bay.
Though the pilot's report had yet to be confirmed, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Robin Pinkard told The Huffington Post that homicide detectives were en route to Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
