A Connecticut father is under fire after posting a photo of his 6-month-old daughter holding a bolt-action rifle to Facebook on Tuesday.
Christopher Duffy told WTNH he snapped the picture of the girl, Genevieve, at Woodbridge Firearms Trading Post in Woodbridge. The store sparked a flurry of criticism when they reposted the photo on their own Facebook page.
“Seeing an infant with her hands on a barrel/scope creates a rather disturbing visual for most people,” Facebook user Caroline Leary commented on the gun store's post, according to Fox News. “Educate? Educate who? The baby? Firearm safety for a 6-month-old? I don't think so.”
“After everything that happened in Connecticut with Sandy Hook and everything that’s going on with the gun laws, why would you have your baby holding a gun… a big gun?” New Haven resident Bryanna Wingate told WTNH.
Duffy countered that the baby just "latched onto" the gun when he first picked it up, and he spontaneously decided to take the picture.
“Other people being upset about it?" Duffy told the station. "I don’t force their kids to do anything. I don’t force them to do anything. My hand was on it, the bolt was open, it was safety checked."
Woodbridge Firearms ended up removing the photo from their Facebook page, posting the following statement:
Dozens of people have commented on the new statement, many of whom expressed support for Duffy and the store.
"This country has nothing but a bunch of complaining wussies," Facebook user Xuan Phem wrote. "It's always good to teach kids to safely handle firearms at a young age. I mean come on now, do these wuss [sic] teach their kids how to safely cross a street by pretending cars don't exist?"

Thanks to all the new supporters that liked our page. Pics have been taken down because the families asked them to be removed. We support teaching young people to shoot and would NEVER put anyone's life at risk. Feel free to share photos and comments. If I post something and it offends you... don't cry to me. Call your mom.
