Deadspin reported that the ref talked for about a minute during the faceoff between North Whidbey Middle School and Oak Harbor Middle School in Oak Harbor, Washington.
The sports site cried foul, calling the official the "world's worst referee." The Sporting News wrote of the call, "It better have been an emergency."
Oak Harbor principal Shane Evans declined comment when The Huffington Post contacted the school. HuffPost also reached out to North Whidbey but didn't immediately hear back.
