It is generally assumed that aviator Amelia Earhart died in 1937 after her plane ran out of fuel and crashed into the Pacific Ocean somewhere between New Guinea and California.
However, a new book, "Amelia Earhart: Beyond The Grave" claims the aviator was a spy who died in 1982 under the name Irene Craigmile Bolam
